As we commence this new year, it’s great to remember the faithfulness of our God, and the greatness of His Word and promises to us.
We are bombarded with words 24/7 through the world media and social media. Every opinion, idea, forecast, and reason, vies for our attention. But it’s not just our attention it grabs – without guarding our hearts, it births fear and confusion.
How different are the words of our loving Heavenly Father! All His words are true and bring peace. Every word of God has the power within it to accomplish its purpose. Jesus said the words He speaks are spirit and life (John 6:63).
It was great to hear from Lily recently, one of our first year eCharis students. She writes:
“I’m so thankful to have signed up to eCharis. I will say this is the best decision I have made in my life!!! Every lesson just gets ‘gooder’ (borrowing Greg Mohr’s word!). I thought I knew quite a fair bit, as I’m attending a grace-based church here in Singapore. But there is still so much more grace and truth that I didn’t know. I need a daily renewal of my mind.”
It’s the Word of God that renews our minds and truly transforms us. We kid ourselves when we think we can change ourselves. It’s as crazy as a leopard trying to change its spots (Jeremiah 13:23)!! The message of God’s unconditional love and grace is at the heart of the gospel, and of the Charis Bible College curriculum. The true gospel has the power to change every aspect of our lives. It’s the message of all that Jesus accomplished for us through His life, death, and resurrection. It’s not about what we can do for God! The truth of God’s Word that we know and believe sets us free.

Lily adds:
“One of the key areas that I’m reminded of so far in these courses is the importance of my intimacy with Daddy God.”
That’s a good reminder for us all. Whatever we may be seeking in life will not be able to satisfy us without a personal relationship with the Father through Jesus. We were created to be in intimate relationship to God, to rely fully on Him.
We were not designed to live independently of God, having to trust in our own reasoning, and work life out for ourselves. In the same way that Jesus said, “The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do,” we are to live in that vital dependency. He said, “Abide in Me, and you will bear much fruit. Without Me you can do nothing.” (John 5:19; 15:5.)
God is so faithful. Of His Word, it says when all else is gone, it is God’s words that will remain. Psalms 89:34 says: “My covenant I will not break, nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.” And Joshua reminds the children of Israel at the end of his life “that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.” (Joshua 23:14)

Jesus says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. My peace I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.“
